在我的雅思教學(xué)生涯中,經(jīng)常碰到學(xué)生上交的作業(yè)中出現這樣的句子:Learning a new language is like learning to swim, it takes a lot of practice. 明眼人應該可以看出句子出現的問(wèn)題,沒(méi)錯,就是“逗號連接兩句話(huà)”! 但是很多學(xué)生往往覺(jué)得這樣的句子是沒(méi)有錯誤,其中很大的原因可能是受到漢語(yǔ)表達方式的影響。 逗號連接兩句話(huà)比比皆是。請看下面這個(gè)例子: “孩子傳統上從中學(xué)開(kāi)始學(xué)習外語(yǔ),但一些教育家建議可以更早開(kāi)始學(xué)習。這一政策已經(jīng)被一些教育當局或一些學(xué)校采用,結果有利有弊。支持這一政策的顯而易見(jiàn)的論據是小孩子學(xué)語(yǔ)言與青少年相比容易得多。他們的大腦依然習慣于獲取他們的母語(yǔ),這有助于學(xué)習另一門(mén)語(yǔ)言,而且他們不像青少年,沒(méi)有被自我意識約束?!?#13; 短短140個(gè)字就出現多處逗號連接兩句話(huà)。深受這種思想“毒害”的小伙伴們在英文作文中犯這種錯誤也就不奇怪了。以上文中的“這一政策,結果有利有弊?!睘槔?,同學(xué)們的翻譯后的英文常常是這樣的: This policy has been adopted by some educational authorities or individual schools, the results are both advantages and disadvantages. y 這是一個(gè)非常典型的run-on sentence(連寫(xiě)句)。改正的方法往往有三種: 1.修改逗號為分號 修改后: This policy has been adopted by some educational authorities or individual schools;the results are both advantages and disadvantages. t 2.添加并列連詞(and, but, so, for) 修改后: This policy has been adopted by some educational authorities or individual schools, andthe results are both advantages and disadvantages. t 3.添加從屬連詞或者介詞 修改后: This policy has been adopted by some educational authorities or individual schools, with both positive and negative outcomes. t 在搞清楚這種問(wèn)題產(chǎn)生的原因和修改方式后,我們再來(lái)一起分析幾個(gè)例子: 例子1:Computer lessons play an indispensable part in school curriculum, it provides students with opportunities to acquire skills and improve futures. y 錯誤分析:這句話(huà)犯了逗號連接兩句的錯誤。經(jīng)過(guò)分析,我們發(fā)現這兩句話(huà)呈現因果邏輯關(guān)系。 改正: a.Computer lessons play an indispensable part in school curriculum; it provides students with opportunities to acquire skills and improve futures. t(修改逗號為分號) b.Computer lessons play an indispensable part in school curriculum, for it provides students with opportunities to acquire skills and improve futures. t(添加并列連詞for)
